It was nearly seven years ago when Jeanne Roper gathered a few socially conscious friends for lunch and asked the question, "What is it that Blacksburg is missing in a support system for economically disadvantaged citizens?" There were several thoughts, but the most energy and interest was in a childcare center for low-income working families.
After that initial meeting, Jeanne began formidable task of bringing the Valley Interfaith Child Care Center into being. Of course, there were many others who helped in the process, but no one was as determined and active as Jeanne. One of her many gifts is as a persuasive advocate, and she is always enlarging our network of support.
As she goes off the board, the members of VICCC Board know we will miss, but we are equally sure that she will do all in her power to continue support and promote the mission that has become VICCC.
